88 lights on 87??

As I understand it the e30's recieved a "face-lift" in the late 87 models, which included plastic bumper coversetc along with a tail light and head light upgrade..(correct?)
Well Can the newer 88+ tail light and head lights be fitted on a 87??? From what I have read you CAN change the bumpers too but require a lot of swapping

the lights are not worth it to change. they are thicker, and youd have to do a lot of cutting to get them on.
