way to avoid points?

A friend claims this will work.

If you are found guily of an offence involving points, pay a few dollars MORE than the ticket. You will be sent back a cheque for the overpayment. Apparently, the points will not go on your record until after you cash the cheque.

Any thoughts?

I've heard of it in the states, but I have yet to hear someone confirm this in Toronto.

Seems like a stupid system, from their point of view.
