Question for those w/ Canon A70 cameras

did you spend the $80 to get the "CBK-100" canon AA NiMH battery charger and batteries or just pick up a $25 dollar charger and rechargeable batteries??

i can't figure out why the price discrepancy is so huge?...could there actually be a reason to spend the $80 for the canon OEM charger?

I've been thinking of getting that too ($69 at Blacks btw). The alkalines die out after 10 shots .

The $25 charger probably takes over 10hrs to charge versus 1.5hr for the Canon. And NiCd batteries have "memory", so they have to be fully discharged before you can charge them, NiMh can be charged anytime and carry a bit more power.

Radioshack has a NiMh batteries (4pcs) with charger for $39.99.

Blacks (square one) also has some other brand NiMH combo for $59.99.

Cheapest I've found the CBK-100 is $41.50usd on the net.

I got Nimh batteries for $20 dollars, got a charger for $5 or so... just drain the batteries all the way before charging them. Leave them in the charger overnight and voila...

Guys, what are your opinions on the A70? I hear people love the cameras but they have all sorts of problems.

i haven't had it long enough to give a decent review.... but i've used the s400 quite a bit and that's definitely worth the 600 bucks...

i got the a70 from staples...450 less 50 coupon - i don't think i will regret it based on dprreviews and other user comments

I've got the A60 as well. Great Camera! I've had it for a while now, and have no complaints. The A70 is basically the same camera except the 3.2 mega pixel, so it should be even nicer.

I use NiMh batteries with good results.
