Problem with Xenon Headlights

Hey guys

I got a 1999 328i and when I turn on the xenon headlights, the front right headlight moves down into position and then the blue xenon light flickers for a few seconds and then shuts off leaving the left headlight only(which works fine). On my console, the pic of the car shows up with an indicator saying there is a problem with the right head light.

Any ideas on why?

could be the bulb wearing out, or the ballast shorting out.
check your fuses first, make sure they're the correct ones and that they're not burnt. As well, try putting the bulb in the other headlight and see if it does the same thing. If it does, then it's the bulb, if not, then the ballast (or something else).

Taking the bulb out and switchin? Seems kinda complicated and risky. Xenon lights arent that cheap. Im gonna put my money on the ballast so im gonna prob end up taking it to the shop.

I think that it might be some water? Cuz I got the Gen IV halos inside and it was working all fine and cool until I took it into a car wash. Im guessing maybe the pressure from the water hitting the lights? I really dont know because the headlights are sealed securely.

so yeah, looks like its time for the shop.

Swapping the bulb is as easy as on a car with halogens, it's just plug and play.
HID lights start to flicker, turn off, or don't ignite when they're at the end of their life span. It's because over time, the bulb requires more and more power to keep it ignited, and eventually it's requirements exceed the output of the ballast, thus you get flickering, and then eventually it will just turn off.
The chances of it being the ballast are small, but you can't know for sure unless you swap the bulbs

While we are on this subject, how log are xenon headlight blubs supposed to last???

I'm glad that the daytime running lights are not xenon.
