E34 M5 OR E39 528i
Guys,
I have the chance to get one of these cars(e34 m5 or e39 528i)and was wondering what suggestions you guys had as to which one to buy!?!
The M5 has got 175,000 k's on the clock,is a '92,has been repainted the original "avus blue" colour, very clean white leather, but has been hit in the front passenger fender!!!,and a short shift kit.
The 528i has 160,000 k's,5sp, very clean inside and out,and new 18 wheels/tires,and oxford green on tan leather.
They are both going for $19,500.
Thanks for you suggestions!!!

E39 looks a LOT nicer, and the M5 does sound like it is gonna piss ya off down the road!!
Get the E39 and ONE DAY, swap a nice M engine in there!

I'd go with the E34, I haven't heard a lot of problems with the E34.

Gamite,
Do you think that 175,000 k's is alot for a '92 and what do you suggest i should look for problem wise??

If you think the engine is still strong, 175 is still ok and it can go upto 200+ until you need to get your engine rebuilt. I say, drive both cars and see which one do you like the best. Just make sure your prepared for the maintenance a head I would go with the M5 if u ask me.
Jeff
PS: If you like to drive hard, trills, and want to be stuck on your driving seat when you accelerate = M5, if you want a daily driver go with the 528

I dunno, I'd like to say the e34, but some of the earlier models have some electrical gremlins in them that randomly show up. Aside from that you shouldn't have problems if the engine was well taken care of.

personally id go with the 528. . .
the m5s been hit before, and the 5'er hasnt. . .
plus the 2.8 seems like the better car to go with if ur looking for an every-day driving car, and 2.8s can boot as well if u need it to
thats my .02

175K is not a lot but it was definately winter driven. Dude, the car was hit. Pass on it.
Does it have a salvage title? who did the repaint? Orange peel? do the body panels line up 100%? Is it a REAL M5? Im sorry but this car sounds a bit sketchy. Go with the E39.
check out www.bmwe34.net for more info on these cars.

Well that's the prob I'm having with the M,as much as I've always wanted and loved that model..1- it has been hit..2-been repainted and the big 3-the dealer has no maintenance history on the vehicle, granted when I drove it the engine did indeed feel very strong but like E46_LOVER said I'm not planning to bend over to BMW anytime soon!!

I'm sure that the car might have a clean record, but it has been hit still, and some people don't like those titles on their cars, me personally i don't care, and would get on the M5 in a heartbeat, but you gotta take into consideration stuff like GAS and MAINTENANCE costs, and you'll see that the M5 isn't the best choice as a daily driver, and if you justt want a little PEP from the E39 its right there and in the long run, performance upgrades ARE cheaper too, for those lil power gains if you plan on getting any!
Go with the E39, besides, it'll get ya more laddies!
