Sub recomendations.

Here are my 2 options.

Build a Custom set up for my 2 current 10's (MTX Thunder 4000s switch from bandpass to sealed and port it into my cabin). I already have most of it planned out.

OR

Sell my 10's and Boxes and get one 12. Ive got a pioneer 600w amp which RMS would run at 300watts at a 4ohm Load. So Id be looking for a sub thats numbers are around tha much.

I am kinda looking at:
Rockford Fostage Punch He's: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/ROCRFP4812

Infinty Reference:
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/INFREF1230W

JL W3

I want more SQ than my current setupu provides with just a decent amount of thump.

Any other recomendatons?

With the 12" or 10" setup the subs would be more or less right in the ski hole.

For your car i would recomend one 12 in a costom built 4th order bandpass ported through the ski boot. I wouldn't use any of that equipment excpt maybe the JL's. It's not an easy box to build the right way but if you can come up with some coin PM me and i'll hook you up with a shop that will do it right.

Sorry buddy but that is probably the BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION ever in car audio.
Size of the sub has little to nothing to do with how "clear" the sound is! The rule of thumb is put the biggest sub in possible with the size restrictions on the enclosure. Bigger subs generally can reproduce lower frequencies and at a higher SPL than smaller subs. If you want a tighter sound (cleaner??) then you can adjust your ports/box volume/crossover/eq. I'm not trying to be an ahole but I can't tell you the number of times that I have corected people about this.

A lot of ppl think the biggger the sub the better, my friend wants 4 15's in his car, but he doesnt understand that if you dont have the right box, the speakers wont perform the way they can, its all about the box you use and the size of it, i'm making some custom speakers for home use, but the place that i got them from gave me a booklet on how to make all kinds of speakers, what kind of insolators to use on the inside of the box, and stuff like that.

The Speaker Shop
Frank Fabian (custom speaker specialist)
1578 Eglington Ave W. Toronto
(416) 782 - 4451

Just talk to this guy or someone who works there, they know a lot and ask them any questions u have and they will give you suggestions, u dont need to buy anything, just ask, they have pretty good prices too.

I have dual 12's but with a sealed box, the sounds is actually quite tight. I've gone the route of SQ rather than SPL.

I'd probably pick JL's as a company to go on. I like Slowered's suggestion, the single 12.

Again, as I said before, the size restriction is your box volume that you can physically fit into your car. You will also need to know what configuration will be your box-bass reflex, ported reflex, or bandpass. Again, the bigger, the better. It's liking buying an 328 or 318. You may not need the extra power from the 328 but it is nice to have and there is no downside (other than gas consumption-not applicable to subs). You have to decide on what kind of music you listen to. Rap, dance, country, jaz? This will determine at what frequency to tune your box and the overall design of the enclosure. I went with 2-12"s ported thru the back deck. I am using MTX T8000 with two 3.5" x 18" ports and a total of 3.15cu in enclosure. There is 2" of fiberglass on 3 interior walls of the box. This design can be used for SQ and SPL competition. If you have the money and room, SIZE DOES MATTER! As far as manufacter, it's like comparing GM to Ford. You want to find the right sub for the application. I usually purchase the sub to fit the application not the other way around.

I have 2 Audiobahn awq1006's (flame q's) Wired parallel with a sony 1000w amp in my wifes mustang, Damn if they don't rattle your teeth. They sit in a 2.75 cuft box firing towards the back of the trunk. My brother has JL W3 in the 10 in variety and the same amp and the same model mustang and they don't compare, my audiobahn's lay waste to the JL's. But that is my opinion. My brother was so impressed he went down and bought audiobahns the same day.
