do you like/dislike painting e36 grill black?

I just swapped my e36 front grill (92-96 style) with the e46 grills...the thing is, the ones I got needed to be refinished... so I painted them black.. (to match m black car)... and to be honest, I'm not sure I like how it looks in black. Nor do I like chrome grills on a black car.. (too bling bling)... What I really wanted was gunmetal black chrome... anyone know where I can get them chromed like that? ... I feel the black grilles on the black car takes away from the "bmw". Especially at night time.. usually those two rings would be visible in the rearview... not anymore though.

Do you guys like or dislike the front grills painted black? ... Anyone have pics of the front ends of their cars?.. what they did to the grills?.. meshed them... 97-98 style?.. blacked out?.. chromed?... show me some pics, I need some ideas.

Thanks,
Justin E36

You can buy a gunmetal chrome paint from most hobby shops. It's not as good as the real plastic-chroming process but it's worth a shot and doesn't cost much (maybe $8 for the spray can)

I got the same set but in chrome and they look good! I am going to paint them once the car gets done.

Razkal, I know.. I bought the exact same ones. I didn't go for the chrome ones, since my car is black.. and I have blacked out corner signals.. and eyelids. (Remember you saw my car at Charlie's?... I'm the guy with the red angel eyes.. .talked about you selling your rear deck spoiler.) anyway... I got the gunmetal chrome ones, and they don't look chrome at all... looks like crap to be honest... looks like unpainted plastic, very flat. I sanded, primted and repainted glossy black to match my car's paint... but still looks bad. Think I'll go back to stock with bullethole mesh or something... we'll see. Thanks.

thanks bro.. I'll try that. I bought regular chrome paint from Canadian Tire... looks awful though.. more gray than anything. Even after shaking the darn thing for an hour... Gunmetal should be better though... thanks for the tip!
