It's a great idea lol. Shouldn't cost you more then 400 for 2 months of storage. Mine even has power. If you want more info pm me. I'd be glad to help. uploadfromtaptalk1407509734059.jpg

Why do you want to go M52 instead of S52?

Mostly because of the $$$ involved. S52 as far as I could see the pricing is a bit more steep vs. an M52.

I would just a save a little longer then. Complete S5x swaps are going for less then 3gs. The swap is going to cost the same regardless of the motor.

True, but the cost of the M52 is much less then 3gs. That's more my price range.

Being a family man (father and all) I have to consider that factor.
Plus I think I'd be happy with the M52 as well.

What motor do you have now? Might as well just go turbo and like under 10 psi.

318i completely stock this type of performance wise. Diff, motor (M42), brakes, tranny, ECU etc.

See, I actually thought about M52 then turbo charge that. Don't know much about the motor in terms of prepping it for turbo. But I figured if the cams, pistons, injectors etc require work, I rather do something like that on an M52 (with less mileage) than on the M42 I have currently, pushing 255 kms.

What would I have to up motor wise on an M42 so it doesn't give up in a year?
I mean look at a snipped from someone's list on R3V.
-
Forged CP pistons 8.5:1, Stainless rings. 85 mm overbore
Balanced bottom end
360 degree oil well bearings
Stock head gasket
Full ARP fastening hardware (connecting rod bolts, main studs and head studs)
-
I don't even know what and why on some of these....

Anyone else feel free to chime in.
Discussion seems to have taken a turn to a more interesting topic. (still need a good shop though )

On a related note, this is what you get http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9FMbcrtomw
with this
1991 318is e30 with Mitsubishi Starion turbo 10 psi, megasquirt, and 3" exhaust.
170.74hp and 167.86tq.

hmmm you got me thinking now 325isdan.

If you keep boost low you should be able to keep the motor stock. I have a super charged s50 in my e30 that is completely stock. running 5psi What kills motors is over revving. You're probably looking at 5gs for a swap to be done.

No doubts Sir... Spoke to Jay when you were there with your touring about a month or two ago, and unfortunately they are only S54 now.

Believe me I tried, in fact I thought about buying the motor from you guys. Can you pm me some numbers on a full M52 swap please?

But Jay and Mike no longer deal with anything less than an S54.
I'll probably try RMP as well. To see what they say. I've had good experiences with them as well.

I'll give some more thoughts to the turbo options. Not rushing into anything. Want to make sure I do it the right way.

I'm tempted to want to take on the job. Do you have all the parts needed? Motor, tranny, oil pan and pick, etc etc?

Not yet, but I'd procure that from BimmerHeaven most likely.
I am looking at the winter months, potentially early 2015. Gotta get $$$ together.

It is an extremely more complicated swap. M60's don't make enough power to be worth it IMO. If you were to go to the trouble of doing a v8 swap do an S62 at least, or an LS-x.
