Distinct e36 smell?

I was in the car with my girlfriend and she told me that the car has this smell to it. I don't have an air freshener or anything in there yet so I just kinda thought it was how the car kinda smells. It's not a burning or anything bad it's just a... smell I guess.

I then started thinking, every e36 I've ever been in has this exact smell. Is there a reason for that? Is it an e36 thing? You guys know what I'm talking about?

I sit in a few a week and usually its the smell off dampness, rusted lines under the drivers side carpet that will one day stop the locks from working lol

Personally, I love the smell. It really adds to the character of the car.

It's a very very nice smell. I think it's due to old genuine leather. Didn't know about it being caused by the rusty lines though.

Depending on the car it usually old leather with perhaps a souson of... shall we say... excited female "pheromone" wafting up from the passenger seat bottom... and just a touch of damp carpet...
