Newly acquired 2002 325ci E-Test

Just purchased my first BMW, a '02 325ci.
Engine light is on currently and was told probably needed a 02 sensor and catalytic converter to pass E test. Also for safety would need new brakes all around.
Could use any advice or tips regarding these problems with my first BMW.
