Well since it's been bumped already, I went to the BMW wizard on Highway 7 with a buddy last year and they had a 4.4 X5 there basically sitting on a pool of coolant. He told the guy it was going to cost a fortune just because the X5 has the stupidest engine bay layout and it takes a ton of labour because of that. Pretty sure the guy ended up parting out the car on kijiji

I was reading the start of the thread and was thinking about the advertisment that followed afterwards. It's been talked about on other threads as I have similar models with no issues (so far) - lol.

I've got the 4.4i in my X5 with 156k on it and experienced a total failure of the cooling system while down in Florida recently. I knew that my engine was suffering from the "small leak" problem and went to CTC and bought a cooling system sealer - made with copper. It worked - got me down to Florida with no issues. Unfortunately, the system failed in a major way and ALL of the coolant came out. I took it to a BMW garage (not dealer) in Venice Florida and they installed the Bimmerfix solution that I supplied to them (bought it down there and was going to get a local tech to install it upon my return to Canada). The Bimmerfix solution seems to be holding - no cooling issues yet... no more drips either.

good to hear your all sealed up, one main reason I unloaded my E66 (745Li) when I did so I didnt have to run into that common issue with those V8's.
