Lightbulb Who can do SW/Firmware Updates e9X ?

Hi,

Is there someone in the GTA area that is proficient with updating software and firmwares of e9x vehicles equipped with CIC based iDRIVE/NAV systems?

I prefer not paying the dealership rate if this can be done more cost effectively else where.

thanks,
K

PM me if you are such a person.

What are you looking to do? Coding certain options to your car or do actual firmware updates to the systems?

As I understand, there is firmware and there are software updates.

I assume getting the latest ECU/DME firmware you will have access to all bug fixes - electronics, new iDrive menus, and electro-mechanically any improvements done in later generation models e.g. improvements in transmission, emissions, and gas consumption -- a very lengthy process to update. Where as software updates often confused with firmware are for specific components of the system i.e. iDrive system, bluetooth profiles.

My intention is not to code for certain options. I wish to do a complete update to the DME firmware and/or software upgrades for the entire iDrive system to the latest version - whatever that may be. I am hoping it would also provide access to certain features available to later gen e9X models i.e. Real-time traffic in the Nav, the ability to add the combox for BMW Apps, etc.

I would also like to update my Maps. But I understand that this is a different process all together.

thanks,
K

You may want to get in touch with either Bimmersport or RMP for this.

Both shops just told me that can't do this.

Dealership doing things for free? That's the first time I've heard of that. They charge for everything. New Nav Maps $500. New firmware? Nope not even a service unless there is something wrong with your car.

I know for the older CCC <'08, you can download the maps and burn them onto a DVD.

Not sure about the newer CIC harddrive based nav. I think you can but uses a usb instead, search online and you should be able to find something.

In terms of firmware, if your car is under warranty and you complain about issues with your system, they might update it but usually they prefer not to as dealers have to update the whole car and it takes a long time, plus something can go wrong. If you have hit the right buttons when you complain for them to do it or your issue has to be serious enough and a known fix.

Otherwise there are shops that can update individual modules on your car. I know Stance Factory should be able to do it, not sure about the others.

It's because they won't do it for free. It takes a long time to do the updates, plus something can go wrong during the upgrade process, etc.

If you're not having any issues, I'd stay away from any updates.

I updated my own recently but I'm not totally comfortable doing it to someone elses.

It's relatively easy to get a DKan cable and do this yourself. Just use WinKFP.

This sounds positive! Do you have the instructions and actual firmware software to do this? Feel free to PM if you prefer.

I too have a DKAN cable but it's not the OEM cable that is needed to do this job as I understand. The $50 cable on ebay won't cut it ?

After you did yours, did you notice anything different? Thanks!
