Check this out... I just stumbled on it.

Click on the tab at the top - "thread tools". I think the OP can add a poll.

Just added my vote to the poll.

Chrome bumpers are best and fender gap is classically classic, of course.

I voted E46. I remember hating them when they first came out cause I was an E36 guy but the truth is, it turned out to be the best all year car I've ever owned.

just an FYI, M3's are not a 3 series, they are M series cars.

If you're going to get technical, then yes, you're right, but the point of this thread is not to get technical, it's to simply say which series, chassis, body style, or whatever you wanna call it is your favorite. The M cars are based off of a particular series of the bmw chassis/body. M3 < 3 meaning it's off a 3 series chassis, M5 <5 meaning it's off a 5 series chassis and so forth...anyways, the thread is for fun, and not for technicalities

So what is the 3 in the "M3" for??? And why does BMW put them in the same category as all other 3? And in the case of the E36, based on the same shell...How does an improved engine/suspension/interior/skirts make it into a different SERIES!!!?? Are M-Package car a new series too? lol

I think it's just semantics, I would categorize the m3 as 3-series. I mean if M was indeed a series then we could just say the m series is best, however in that series even the chassis are radically different. The M may be its own series but I think we get the point op is getting at
