How much KM is too much?

Hey guys, I was looking at a 1998 328i with 317,000KM on it. Seller claims it no leaks or noises and doesn't burn any oil or coolant.

I know that if proper maintenance is done, any vehicle could last long. So assuming this vehicle was regularly oil changed and such, how long it would last roughly? Sorry if this question is out of the ball park but just wondering! Thanks

I sold my E46 330xi about 3-4 years ago with 280,000km .. the guy loved it and tracked it .. sold it for $3000 with 740,000km. Original engine .. proper maintenance was done. It really depends on the car and the maintenance done to it .. most likely if the person was a car enthusiast they would have kept it well maintained

When buying a high mileage car make sure that all of the systems of the car have been properly maintained. Usually the high cost items that wear out first are not the engine and trans, it is the tires, brakes, suspension, clutch/flywheel, body (ie rust ), then engine and transmission.

Make sure you get good maintanence records or buy the car cheap enough to allow you to do the neglected maintanence.

Good luck!

Engine wise, my dad's '92 525i (M50 engine) has 425,000km, he still drives it over 100km everyday. No issues with his powertrain at all, the engine has never been opened.
