Would you buy a GPS tracker for your car for $300? You would need to buy a SIM card for it so that it would send you SMS messages of its location. The location can also be sent by e-mail through SMS forwarding services. It is portable and does not have to be mounted to the car.

^^i wouldn't post that you have one, its very easy to build a cell phone jammer and then steal your car.

I dont know, if my car was worth way more to me than the insurance value, or i didn't have full coverage, mabye. Otherwise no, since the cost of the device + a years worth of monthly fees for the sim card will be more than my deductible.

as above....only if insurance coverage was limited and/or car worth a significant amount more to justify extra investment....but overall NO.

depends if the insurance compay will reduce your premium for having it on the car. if they will reduce your premium by more than 300$ for having it on the car, then its worth it.

as for cell phone jammer... Lol.. not that easy to do.

Jimmy, i just wouldn't want you helping someone else to bite you in the ass.

sirex, it really isn't that hard, although if you're going to build one i suggest not posting online about it as its illeagal to own in canada.

The chips can be purchased pre-programmed on ebay and a variety of other sources

Isn't that how a $100K+ BMW destined for the NAIAS was stolen? Does anyone know if they found it btw?

GSM signals wont get out of a sealed shipping container, you dont need a jammer just a tow truck and a hook up with the longshoremen.

^^just be sure to adjust the pentometer so the carrier wave spans the full GSM frequencies, they're rarely calibrated properly.
