e39 m5 is 400hp and the torque makes up for the added weight.

You're all wrong. The correct answer is a 1989 beige Corolla 5spd.

Comon buddy.. you know all these m5 dyno at 315 to 330 hp I think the m3 is better at power to weight ratio.

Every car dyno's lower at the wheels than what the manufactures rate at the wheels. S52s dyno 200-220whp. S65s dyno 330-350rwhp.

Without comparing before and after on the same dyno, dynos are lame. All dynos read different.

definitely would choose e39 m5, without a single doubt.

I prefer the looks of the m5, the v8, the 4 doors. Plus you don't see them that often anymore, when on the other hand, e46 m3s are on every corner.

m5 is a boat...sick but big. If you have a family though it makes a bit more sense..
but really it depends on what you want. generally the upkeep on the e39m is going to be more costly as well.

everyone is going to have their own lists of wants/needs.

the size and power to weight on m3 is win...but im not all that fond of the e46m looks....so for me to switch.. id likely go m5 just because v8 and it looks awesome.

the land yacht-ness of it would bother me though

ive seen more e39m5's today than e46 m3's. found it interesting. I mean really even e46m is kinda rare these days. I see e9x the most for sure(durr its the newest and every one is a faux baller these days with the latest amg's n shit)
