I'd keep it bare block. All the extra stuff just makes it look more like an unfinished build

Thought about it at first, but the intake manifolds are very cool. Plus, my girlfriend likes that look better, and it says BMW on it....

Since I've already lucked out on being able to put this in our living room, I'm not going to argue too much

Also, we can always bring it back down to the bare block later if we chose.

Right on. It won't be too tall?

it will be a bit taller than "normal" coffee table height but I think it'll still be fine.

Maybe get an S70 vanity cover to throw on the manifolds, that'd be a badass sight under the glass.

well have to say I've been slacking on this....

I was an idiot and accidentally threw out my intake manifold gaskets. Turns out they are $140 each... and I need 4 of them!!!

FML. looks like I'm making something out of wood to bridge the ~ 1" gap.

FINALLY got back to working on this though. Got the intake manifolds primed, and started painting the block/heads aluminium. The paint I got is a little shinier than I hoped, but Andrea will like it better lol.

Starting to take shape now... Intakes are black:

I sanded down the BMW logo and reassembled it:

Just have to paint the cams and sprockets, and get a glass top!

She's all bolted together now! Used scrap plywood for the intake spacers, and my belt sander to make them look decent.

Unpainted:

Installed:

Not sure how I want to finish the cams yet... I could just clear coat them.... Other than that it's done though!

Looks good! I have always liked the coffee table on top gear. Maybe you should make a lamp out of the crank

Thanks! It's a win that I could convince my girlfriend to allow this - not going to push my luck with a lamp

LOL, good point! Most women don't appreciate car parts in the living room

Thanks guys!

Finally got it in the house today! I'm going to use plywood as a template, and then order a glass top make it complete:
