Best used 7 seater?

Hi guys,

So the wife finally got her G2 and with 2 babies in the house, we need to look for a 2nd car for her and the little ones.

Budget is pretty tight but can swing around 12k in the next month or so. Ideally I am looking for a 7 seater SUV or a minivan, since I probably wont be able to get a mint X5 for the price.

Since Im pretty much a novice at this - can you guys share any advice on what would be a good SUV/Minivan that I can get for the price mentioned...

Plan to use it for at least 2-3 years not more. On average she would be doing about 10-12k kms a year.

If you want a comfy baby/family hauler with loads of practicality and no mechanical headaches, look for a Honda Odyssey or maybe a Pilot (whatever their big SUV is called). We had two Odysseys (2003 and 2007) from new and never had an issue.

Of course, forget about any quality interiors or luxuries. These cars are very much utilitarian and that's about it.

Anuk, from what i know and have read most year Odysseys have tranny issues. Be careful OP.
Dodge Caravans are apparently a very stout choice as well as the Kia Sedona's(read more bang for your buck).
Anyway, e46dude, you've been PM'd.

You're right. At high mileage those transmissions are supposedly troublesome. We never had an issue though, nor has another family member with over 170k miles on that one.

Thanks guys.

Replied to the PM!

The Odyssey is an option but I also heard about its tranny issues at high mileage - I dont know if I can get a low mileage one under 12k.

Would a SUV be possible? Without the minivan feeling O

I'm looking as well and I'm sticking with Toyota, you know the old saying, you get what you pay for.

Another one that I've looked at a few and it's surprisingly nice is Suzuki XL7 (2002-2006), the third row seats actually does fit adults and most I've talked to seem to like it a lot and seems fairly reliable, downside is sourcing parts, some parts can be bit hard to find.

My mother had an '02 Odyssey, tranny blew twice in 230000 kms. Ended up paying over 15 grand in just-out-of-warranty repairs on that POS in ten years.
