Just go drive it!

Last year I put about 200 km on my E30 after I got it on the road in September.
I drove carefully with-in walking distance of home - you know - just in case.

Last Sunday I put 190 km on it, 80% or so highway, and after a few miles I was driving the heck out of it. I liked it and so did the car. It revs better, it shifts better and it's just... it's ... well... it's a car now, not a museum piece.

It's soooo much better now. In a week I've not quite doubled last year's mileage.

So, my sage and profound advice is to stop working on / fussing over your car and fretting over that odd little hitch in the idle or the spot of oil near the franastat grapple grommet: it's spring! Just go drive it!

(With thanks to The Twin for giving me a reason to take'er beyond walking distance.)

Well said, SubDad

I spent last year debugging my project after building it so I don't think there was a weekend where I wasn't spinning wrenches trying to get things right. It kept me broke, busy and close to winter pretty miserable. Because I was spinning wrenches all the time I wasn't able to do any lapping or auto-x (which is probably a good thing after going over the front suspension this winter). I was also using the car as a DD so if it didn't work, I didn't go anywhere.

But this year I decided I wasn't going to DD the car and haven't had to do ANYTHING beyond putting gas in it. It's been a joy to tour in. It may not be pretty with it's unpainted fenders and mismatched front bumper or even particularly fast but it's mine, I built it and it puts a smile on my face every time I take it out. Have logged about 3000KM in the last 3 weeks.

I'm about 90% sure that I'm going to attend. Just need to figure out if I'm going to go up the night before or go up the morning of.

If any London/KW guys want to cruise up, that will sway my decision one way or the other.

I'd be down to cruise up. Whether or not I go will be determine by what the weather forecast is the day before the cruise.
