So with HPF now out of business, what to do for a turbo E46 M3? look inside
Not sure how many of you know but yesterday HPF closed up shop... of course that leaves the current HPF cars without support and anyone contemplating a turbo E46 M3 with one less choice (not sure why anyone would want an HPF kit these days to be honest).
But that's ok... there is a new way to get your fix. I thought I'd share some exciting development coming from the guys at Maximum PSI & guru BMW tuner Nick G.
Let me present to you the MaxPSI E46 Turbo kit... It's truly impressive to see what these guys have come up with so far and impressive to see where they seem to be going with this. It almost makes the HPF cars look laughable in comparison. Of course lack of proper engine management w/ HPF kits (using a piggyback) never works out right on an ECU as smart as the one in the M3.
I thought it's time they got some well deserved recognition outside BF.c so read on!
The guys @ Maximum PSI have now released their Stage 1 turbo kit utilizing the stock ECU, and have done testing on their stage II kit on race gas. Both "stages" are on a 100% stock motor. They're still in development stages for other Stages (like built motor, etc).
Here is a Dynojet plot of their stage I system running on 93 octane, with catted downpipes:
and here is their testing of the strength of the motor for their Stage II development... motor is still stock here, running MS109 fuel at around 17 psi (697 whp / 513wtq).
Now all we need is these guys to release an M5 kit. O snap.
That’d be pretty sweet because there’s only a handful of turbo S62s out there. If I recall HPF was developing a kit for the M5 4-5 years ago but the project got canned because of the cost. It is a lot easier to supercharge the S62. I can’t imagine reliably going too far past 600hp without sleeving the block because the wall thickness between cylinders on the S62 is pretty thin.
E46fanatics would be best to get info on that, a few of Chris' colleages are on their to help current standed customers.
It is a real shame HPF, is gone....from what the internet shows 200g to make a huge company like that go under..I don't know, on top of everything I have been hearing within the industry...it is just a big shame.
They did know what theyre doing, they were innovators in this industry so credit should be given when due. The maxPSI kit has some crazy advancements making use of tables in the ECU no one has cracked or better yet making use of what the ECU has left to offer, although most of the promising #'s are using race gas or E85 blends which we can't get here readily.

I'm loving these comments. Comparing a kit with over 150 kits sold to one with 3 and saying HPF didn't know what they were doing. Lol. Don't forget this company was the first to reach 700/800/900/1000rwhp in a complete kit.
Don't get me wrong, what Max PSI is doing is fantastic, he'll I might go for the stock ecu tune on my kit. But saying HPF is/was a joke is well a joke
HPF's cars were all dyno queens. Their full out drag car wasnt even impressive. At the end of the day #'s sell so that's what they focused on.
HPF just rammed down their marketing bs down the throats of the bmw community. Heres a vid to prove it. This is the worst form of marketing i've ever seen, and they're pretty much lying to their customers by saying the cast manifold is going to outflow the billet steedspeed.
"We're going to change the kits manifold to a shittier less efficient design, and have someone who knows nothing about forced induction, let alone barely knows how to breathe "try" and explain wtf is going on."
Also too many hands in the soup which spoiled it. They contracted all their process's. i.e tunning, motors being built etc At least with radowskis kit everything is done in house by 1 guy!
