rebar to use?

i am putting on a mtech kit and i had the old metal bumpers. I don't want to just push in my old bumpers. I cant find rebar for the car. So could a rebar from another car work?. the more common the car the cheaper the parts. I figure i could cut length if needed.

Jase,

You couldn't use the stock bumpers even if you wanted to because they are too deep. I had the bodyshop hang the M Tech kit so I don't know what it came from.

Best way is to get the 89-91 rebars...the front (aftermarket) is $125, and the rear is not too hard to find used (but you need the shocks too).

well i need all the help i can get. that rebar is short. So dave can you give me a range 1-2....2-3...4-5?

The rebar is just the right length. The bumper cover isn't flat...it has a curve so the corners would hit if the rebar was too long.

I used the factory plastic rebarb 89-91 and cut it about 5 inches from the side (front and rear) also i cut the front valence from the lip down to save some weight. the kit is solid if you glue everything on.

PS you will most likely need to trim and alter the kit slightly to fit your front and rear wheel wells pirfectly.

Forget BMW! From what I remember the rebars were over $300 each and the bumper shocks about $150-170 each!!! Thants more then your kit! A place by my house sells the front rebar for $125 and you might find even cheaper!
