ECS Tuning - shipping / cross border

About to order off ECS Tuning but as many of you know the shipping is retarded. I mean, Im still way ahead with their prices but the shipping its just stupid really.

The order is upwards of $1,000 - CanEase shipping with no duties etc is around $230

If I were to have it shipped to Buffalo for example and pick it up there, what do I declare at Customs? The entire receipt?

Would they tax me on the entire amount? Like whats the WORST case scenario when I come back across with this stuff tax wise and duty fees

Thanks

Have a look at the CBSA's section on declaring goods to be imported to Canada:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publicati...56-eng.html#s3

If you can prove that the goods were made in North America, then you'll just be subject to HST for the amount you claim (which should be the total on your receipt), otherwise you will have to pay duty for importing your order (something like 8% if I remember correctly.) If you stay over 24 hours in the US, you can get a $200 exemption (although claiming over this amount results in this exception being removed) - or $800 if you're there for over 48 hours.

$230 is not bad for $1000+

If you go across you have to Show them the Recipt and they will for sure charge HST which will be $130 on $1000. Maybe Duty maybe not. I have not been charged Duty yet while crossing the border but HST everytime.

so $230 - $130 leave you with $100 Saving.

So about $40 in Fuel from Toronto and Back and $5-$10 in Storage Fee's and $3.50 to cross back into Canada... Really worth the drive to save $45?

If you ship to a drop box in Buffalo, your shipping cost will be less than $230
and if you declare, like "some car parts" without mentionin cost unless asked,
at times you get off without paying.

Worst case scenario, you pay full amount.

With the custom laid off or furlough coming, there might be fewer custom officers
to check ..

I bought stuffs from ECS and shipped to drop box,I declared.. so far had not paid any hst or duty

I do that all the time.. saves you about $100 if you pick it up in US. It all depends how much your day is worth.

Depends what you're buying.

FCPEuro.com has ~$30 shipping on your entire order, duties included (UPS World Ease)

It really all boils down to the knowledge of the custom agent to know what their doing. NAFTA certificates and tariff codes determine if you get duty and how much.

I've never seen UPS world ease that cheap.. it usually starts much higher then that.

I recently put together a shipping card at FCPeuro and shipping would have been $70.

For my control arms it was $100.

I just had them ship me some stuff and I chose the no BS method.
$200 for parts / $60 for shipping and all taxes etc.
I can get my parts at dealer cost and it was $300 + tax.
I think it was worth the $60.00 to have it shipped hastle free to me.
To my door 1 week after ordering them.

Well figure 6% duties and 5% gst.

Most likely none of that stuff qualifies for NAFTA(Made in USA/MX/CANADA)

You can lie but risk paying a whole lot more if they catch you then just paying your duties and tax.

Auto parts they most likely wont let you slide by but again its all up to how the officer is feeling that day.

Depending when you purchase your parts you could "fake" your stay in the states and take advantage of your exemptions.

Swapped over to FCP Euro - better pricing and the shipping is even better! Just wish they stock a little more

My coilovers cost exactly $30 to ship with FCP in Spring 2012.
The matching strut mounts cost about $32 for some reason - just a couple of weeks later.

Pricing always varies, but its very low for what it covers.

Glad you're giving them business. They took care of me when I had issues.

I agree they should carry more parts though.
