Key Programming

I just picked up a 128i and it only came with 1 key fob. What's the best way to pick up a key and have it programmed? I called the dealer and it sounds like they charge 300+ for key and programming.

On ebay I found one with the same FCC# for 28 bucks shipped and was planning to get it programmed.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so, what is the cost. Also open to other ideas.

I am in the same boat with my 135...
It can only be done through the dealer ($400)
I have been looking into this for a while and this is what I found.
If you have Comfort Acess:
The Key must be programmed at the Factory with your VIN, and then programmed to your car at the dealership.

If no CA then possibly is all I have heard, but have not researched as I do have CA.

I'm in need of one as well. Group buy? Might save the $40.00.
It does not look like a cheap way out here and I'm not very comfortable sending them my only key.

I'm in the same dilemma as I only have one key. I can reach out and setup a group buy if you guys are interested since I really need to get new keys.

Can you guys also list out the model and year of your car? I will email the rep at RPM and see how much it would be.

I just called and he can provide the BMW key fob and cutting for 240$ with an existing key. We should see if he can do a Maxbimmer group buy on this for 200$ or something.

Did you ask how many extra keys that $240 includes?? Does that also include programming for the remote keys?

The one at RPM is: "This is a BMW E46 (3 Series) Remote Key Set Years 1999 to 2006. The Set Comes as 2 Original BMW Remote Keys and 2 Non Remote Spare Keys."

It sounded like it was just the one key fob and programming for 240$ - I didn't ask about non remote spares though. I've never lost my car keys (knock on wood) lol so I didn't even think to ask about additional spares.

The one in the US is $280 +++ but you get 2 remotes and 2 keys.

I'll email the guy in Etobicoke about a group buy and see if he can arrange some sort of Maxbimmer discount.
