E30 BC Racing Coilovers Help
Hey guys,
I'm about to purchase BC Racings BR Type Coilover set up for my E30. I would like to get a very low stance set up for my car and BC Racing offers custom spring lengths/rates as well as different valving. I plan to drive my car mainly as a daily with a little drifting/autocross and I need some help with specing out this suspension.
As for spring stiffness I've heard the majority of guys go with 550 Front and 675 Rear. As far as spring length goes, I am not sure what size to get.
For shock lengths, and valving, can anyone point me in the right direction for a correct daily set up that is low. i.e. Frame 1.5 inches off the ground.
Thanks guys
-Ben

There is no such thing. Any "daily" set-up that has the frame rolling around at a static 1.5" off the ground puts everyone else on the road beside or behind you at risk. Not only that it's inconsiderate because you end up holding up traffic every time you have to go up a driveway. If you want to roll around that low get a proper bag set-up.

A least make sure to get a skid plate installed so you won't leave big puddles of oil on the driveways of the guys you're going to buy parts from.

It happened to me last year. Someone (who may or may not be on this forum lol) was coming to pick up a flywheel from me. On the way to my house some lady cut him off or something and he had to drop a wheel onto the gravel shoulder. When he got out of his car everything was cool.... when we came back from the garage his E30 was swimming in a lake of oil... cracked an oil pan from just dropping a wheel onto the shoulder, how lame is that. True story though, I still have the oil stain on my drive way to prove it

Has anyone on maxbimmer fabricated their own skidplate out of sheet metal and round stock tubing?

I have all the parts ready to go for the style that has the hoop between frame rails, I just need to weld the mounts to the frame rails. I'm also going to weld a piece of flat bar that's been drilled and tapped to the front subframe for securing the back end of the skid plate. The skid plate is a 12" wide by 3/16" thick piece of stainless steel.

Very nice. I've seen a lot of aftermarket alumuninum ones, which are nice and light, but definitely won't take a lot of beating before becoming destroyed. I'm liking your stainless steel approach. I'm going to mock one up with pizza box cardboard before sourcing out metal.
