e30 Steering Rack options

So i've gotta do some rust work on the e30 in the next week or so and im planning on reinforcing the front and rear subframes and while i'm at i fugured i'd upgrade my steering rack. I know that there's the e36, z3 and e46 swaps but i was wondering how these feel on the e30 compared to stock. I'm most interested in doing the z3 swap but i've heard it can be quite twitchy. Also if anyone knows the ratios lock to lock for these racks it would be helpful also.

Z3 rack is crazy expensive, IMO e46 racks or e36 racks will be better bang or buck -- e46 330 02+ are the best by consensus from doing some looking around.

I installed a Z3 rack on my car. I can't really compare it to any other racks aside from stock but I highly recommend it.

Z3 rack is 2.7 turns lock to lock.

I don't know if I would call it twitchy but it is very responsive. I also deleted my power steering so it probably feels a little different then a Z3 rack with power steering.

I think it cost me about $600 for the swap. That includes a new rack, new tie rods, E36 rack swap kit, and power steering delete.

You can read about it here...

I got a e36 rack for 30 bucks from the junkyard. A little degreaser and some new grease on the bearings and it works beautifully. Same feel as a stock rack, but the lower lock-lock turns is awesome.

Yeah after doing a bit of reading I think I'll end up going with an e36 rack instead, as long as i can get the steering a bit quicker I'll be happy.
