Made a bit of progress this weekend. Pulled the m50 out on saturday, stripped it down, swapped parts to the s52. Bolted clutch/flywheel/tranny up to the s52 this morning, and dropped it in this afternoon!

M50 out:

Good time to pull it out. Throwought bearing was messed up. Found some metal bits in the tranny.

s52 stripped down:

Underside looked really clean. Swapped the oil pickup to accomodate the e34 pan and secured the oil pump nut

Now just have OBD1 stuff to figure out. Waiting on an engine harness+ecu. Need to pick up a bunch of sensors, then it should be good to go. My next event is September 14th so the plan is to have it running by then!

Saw a pic on r3v that you had RA1s on the car instead of the Contis. How did you find the RA1s in comparison?

Yup, I have been running 245 ra1's on my black wheels for the last year and they have been great, so I picked up a set of 255's for the green wheels. They are faster than the conti's for my car because I just can't get the continentals up to temp. The Ra1's are a bit of a softer compound so they are working well for me. That being said, the 245's are faster than the 255's at the moment because the higher profile on the 255's is killing my power! Another reason I'm anxious to get the s52 running lol.

looks good dude!

I suggest figuring out your e36 Mishimoto rad install before you risk it on track with the e30 318 rad...

She's Alive!

Seems to run nice and smooth. Going to need a new exhaust but i'll work on that over the winter.

Took Shawn's advice and installed the mishimoto rad+moroso expansion tank.

The finished product:

Going to be shaking down the car at the autoX this sunday to make sure she's ready for Bogie next week

Thanks! I wish I had the time to put as much care into it as you did but I wanted to get her running before the end of the season. I think ill pull it out again over the winter to do some maintenance.

Brought the car out to Capital City Speedway last night with Barrie for some 'drift and tune'. The car pulls really hard now thanks to a proper Midnight tune!

Chris - You beat me on your last run at the AutoX on Sunday. I do, however, feel much better now that I see you didn't just have 12 extra valves anymore (M50), you actually had twice the valves and 0.7L on me.

It was fun to see my car's evil twin out there. I never got to talk to you though as we seemed to run a couple of cars apart all day.

Hey man! Your car looked awesome out there! Definitely cool to see another rough-around-the-edges e30 getting tossed around lol.

Yea it was most likely just my heavy foot, but I was definitely battling for traction all day. I can't believe the difference in power from the m50. It's just insane. I had to stay in 3rd for the entire course, yet it was pulling out of the back loop like it was in 2nd! Can't wait to take it to the track on friday.

It's too bad we didn't get to meet, maybe next time. Your first time out at an MCO event?

Yep. First one. I live in Toronto so it's a long haul for an AutoX. I am from Ottawa though so I decided to make a weekend out of it and go see the Defi rally on Friday-Saturday, visit the family and them hit up the AutoX before heading home.
Why did you pull the M50? Did you blow it, or just crave even more speed?

I couldn't get my 6 year old stored outside and given to me free 205 wide RA1s to stick at all. It was only about 10-20% more grip than ice racing. I think I spent an equal amount of time thinking about the cones as I did keeping the car from spinning. I was laughing about it while I was driving. I had a great time.

Yea a 4 hour drive for just an autoX is a bit of a stretch, sounds like a solid weekend though!

The car is set up mainly for track use, and that's what I have been focusing on, so it just needed more power. The M50 was great, pulled strong, but you know how it is, you always want more power haha.

LOL yea it was definitely a fun event. Spinning tires may not be fast, but it certainly is fun!

Wow, I haven't updated this in a while.

The season ended well. Had some issues with frying ecu's, so I unfortunately missed the last Calabogie gt race, but still managed to finish in second.

Not sure what the issue was with the ecu, but the car ran well after that. The s52 is a whole different animal. I am now pretty much on par with Shawn (power to weight). Can't wait till next year to see what she can really do!

Now that the season is over, it's back to work on the car! Plans for this winter:

- Steel widebody work
- Paint
- Aero work (wing, bumper/splitter)
- S52 will get a refresh but will remain stock-ish.
- Figure something out for fuel starvation issues. Possibly going to go with a fuel cell.
- Going to finally pick up a proper racing wheel

Got started on the front fenders a few weeks ago:

Plan for next season is to start road racing. plans are still unsure as of now, but i may try out GT Challenge.
