Brake dust specs that wont come off...

Hello everyone, well I've been outside today cleaning my car inside and out, and ran into problems with brake dust. Its only the two front rims, has a lot more dust than the rear two. I spent quite a while with a cloth and soapy water and got some off but cant get it all off and nice and shiny. I've googled and heard WD40 works but I didn't have any luck with it. It got off some but I still have these ugly spots left. If anyone has any tips on products I can pick up from a Canadian Tire/Parts source type store or even online, I'd appreciate it a bunch.

Any good wheel cleaner should be able to get most of it off. Canadian tire has a few different kinds. I've tried the auto glym custom wheel cleaner and it works well but you may want to dilute it in water because that stuff is pretty strong. Follow the instructions too because it can do damage if you leave it on for too long. Also use a soft cloth because if you use something abrasive with that wheel cleaner it will leave scratches.

You will have to use a polish to get that off... Mothers Aluminum polish does well

Yeah I'd try the aluminum polish or maybe a clay bar...good luck!

you won't be able to get that off without serious "scrubbing".

I use regular hand cleaner (with pumice) and rub and rub and rub... takes forever!!!

I've used this stuff with great success. Spray on let it sit and rub off with soft cloth . Turn the cloth every once in awhile so your not cleaning with dirt.

I've been using the Meguir's Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner for years and I love it. Readily available at CT for around 10 bucks a bottle. Lasts at least a whole season.

+1 for this as well. BMW used to sell these under their own label. The BMW Wheel Cleaner spray was essentially a rebranded Sonax product and it worked wonders, too.

Use a screw drive to scape it off, philips works best. If you have a chrom finish i would recommend 80grid sand paper. It'll look like new, trust me.

Warm water + soaked kitchen sponge + very gentle scrubbing

And after it comes off, clean your rims more often so you never have this problem again
