100 minimum per person. But it also depends on the venue like everyone said. You wouldnt believe how many people give shitty gifts at weddings. I got married last year and it was 100 per plate, open bar, etc... a family of 6 gave us $50. Cheap good for nothing bastards.

I am getting married in a few months, let me tell you, 100$ gets you nothing good but a generic hall in woodbridge.

That's just brutal. I tend to be generous, but I don't think that people should expect to make money by doing weddings. It may work well in theory, but in the practice it's not that easy done. I went to a engagement party with my brother, and it was like a stag for 150ish people. Since my parents live in Europe, me and my bro pitched in for them. So I put one pink 500euro bill inside. Ahh that was worth a lot more a few years back. To make it short, my friend made around $5000 from that engagement party, and plans to do a wedding in a year.

no open bar? haha i hope i dont see the day when i get invited to that wedding.
but i dont think i ever will.

Even if there is a open bar, I am not big fan of it. I import homemade booze from Europe. I am not too crazy on getting drunk from chemicals.

From what I'm told your gift is supposed to cover the cost of your meal at the wedding. Plus most bridge use some sort of registry now so that you don't buy them something someone else already bought them.

It all depends on your background too - In Indian weddings it's customary to invite everyone and their brother. As a result, the community goes to weddings for the kids of people they know, not that they know them themselves. It's kinda ****ed, it's changing with out generation (I won't go if I don't know them - I couldn't give a shit...).
That being said, my wedding in vancouver had 600 people. Let me tell you, with an Indian wedding, buffet style (which most are) we are WELL below $100 per head... We had a family of 6 show up with $21 gift (we do $1 extra as we deem it lucky, so $101, $201, etc)
If it's my parents forcing me to go, we'll go $50-$100 for the two of us. If it's friends, it's $200 from the 2 of us. If it's non Indian friends wedding, between $250 and $300 depending.
