will tire fit rim?
does anyone know if a 245/40/17 tire will fit a 7.5" rim? thanks

205-225. 235 is the furtherest you should push it.

i say pass the recommended range because you need a grip, i have 8.5 and i fit 275 on them

It wont handle well, unless it's going on the back of a muscle car, I wouldn't do it.
You are better off buying better rubber than trying to fit fat tires on skinny rims.

I had 225's on a 6" rim, but they were stiff r-comps. Feels like shit and transitions are a sloppy mess as the wheel moves from one sidewall edge to the other. Gripped like crazy though.

Okay guys, please have references to backup your claims. 
In the Pirelli Tire Guide book, 7.5" rim is permitted for 245/40/17. Nominal would be 8" to 9.5"

It depends on the tire itself and what rim it was designed to fit because of the steel belts.
Look up that tire on tire rack and see what wheels are recommended.

^yeah, if you are running a narrow 245 you might be able to sneak it by, but it's going to look like it belongs on MrT's van.

Can the tire shop mount it ? Probably...
Will you enjoy driving your car.... not likely. You might as well mount a set of 65 series winters on the car if you're going to put a tire like that on a 7.5" rim.

So you're telling me that when you are driving, you can actually feel a difference between driving on a 7.5" rim and a 8" rim? please explain what the difference in feeling will be.
