Strangely, there are people who think we're silly for modifying old BMW's in order to make them only slightly slower than a new Camry.

I'd almost agree if it weren't for the hood pins.
But yeah, every time my grandfather sees me working on my car he tells me I should have bought a Camry like his. In and amongst the geriatric demographic the Toyota brand is revered for its reliability and non-oil burning characteristics.

+1
although props to squeezing the most mpg possible out of the neon or any car for that matter but i don't know if i could drive a car that looked like that, he could have at least painted the "rims" or "rim covers" black..

Your 318 runs 13 second 1/4 mile times? Forgive me for being skeptical - what have you done to it?
A new camry V6 can run 14 flat, which makes it faster than both E36 M3's I've owned, and it would give the LT1 Corvette a run for it's money.

It should when im done
Well at least in the 14's but its main build is for tracks than straights.
If you want to keep things in perspective.. My little 4 as it sits now holds its own pretty good with most modern cars within a range... It has bested the lancer gt, really close with focus svt, sir/si civics... Can it do well vs m3, mustang, amg, S4, g35, etc.. No... V6 camry not the new one , the 4 im sure it would be close... But for a 21 yr old car with a few mods done and more on the way she goes pretty good.
I love it when i go on the crusies when people dont believe i have a 1.8... Till i show them.

It's true. 14.1 1/4 mile, 5.7 0-60. V6 Camry...probably beige.

Car and Driver tested the V6 Camry at 14.3/103mph in the 1/4 mile which is pretty impressive, and probably faster than my M5 with 20+ years on it...
I'll stick with the M5 though, especially at a third of the price and a thousand times the driving experience... More like a tenth of the price for an e30 318i/s (and a thousand times the driving experience...)
But I guess if you live life a quarter mile at a time, the Camry is your huckleberry...

You believe what you want.. My car is far from stock.. And what a lot of people seem to forget it hp:weight ratio.. Gear ratio and driver.

A Forester Turbo would dust most cars on this forum. Same with a RAV4 V6. Or Altima/Maxima/Quest minivan/anything with a Nissan VQ. And then get better fuel mileage and require zero maintenance.
That's not what we're in BMW's for, at least I hope anyway.

Agreed, but it sure is tiring hearing about how "fast" someone's Exx BMW is with the CAI and catback. I think we digress - my point was merely that it's silly for any auto enthusiast to point and laugh at another when we're just as "silly" in yet another group's eyes....to add some perspective, if you will.

Only thing that bothers me is how quickly people bash or put down others when they just post something about what they have done in or with their car.
Dont hate.. Procreate
