E39 Brakes: Too Loose?

My E39's brakes seem a bit too loose (comparing it with an X5, Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, and Toyota RAV4). What I mean, it seems the car brakes slower, and so I have to press the brakes more than I am used to for it to stop. (In other words: the car travels longer than other cars I've driven for it to stop.) I noticed this with two other E39s I test drove. Is this a fixed design thing, or can this be adjusted?

It could be that the brake pedal travels longer in the E39, but is there a solution for this?

Some background: my E39 has new brake fluid, fairly good pads, and new rotors (the rotors might be warped, however).

Any insight about the issue are much appreciated.
