I am curious to see where this goes..
Most likely it's what's loosely known as social engineering. He makes many of these offers every day. Once in a while someone bites. He's counting on your email password being the same as your paypal password, or maybe like many you're using the same email address and password on multiple online services. He'll first try to use the "Forgot my Password" feature to try and answer the so-called security questions. Those can be easy to guess if one tries enough times. If he can guess right he can get a new password, which will lock you out... and then he can try the same with your paypal password.

To try to avoid all this, if you are still curious, create a new email account, and a new paypal account with passwords you won't use again, and send him that email address. See how it goes.

i dont understand.... he has to answer the secret question lol... hows he going to do that?

i dont think its a scam in terms of "logging" into your account to steal you money.

no its more likely he has a stolen credit card/etc, that he is using through paypal.. so what he does is sends you th emoney. then he disputes it with paypal saying he never got the item.. and paypal usually sides with the buyer...

or you get the money. then u send the car. and then paypal does a charge back or something because it was a stolen credit card/bank account.

Yup. That's why people don't use paypal as back in the days.

A significant proportion of people provide answers that happen to be easy to guess. Maybe not the OP, or many savvy people but the general average Joe(lene)

Eg - What is your mother's maiden name.

Well if the target of the scam happens to be brown, try Kaur or Kumar, and you might just strike it lucky. If they're white try Smith or Brown. There are actually people who have nothing better to do all day that to keep on trying this with different accounts until they find one that works...

It's just statistics combined with very large numbers of unaware internet users

Thats not a scam then. It's hacking. And if its hacking, he doesn't need to bother emailing you. He can hack into your email account and go through emails and figure shit out that way.

A real hacker won't do that. Chances are you'll get your computer full of key loggers rather than someone siting at their computer all day trying to guess your dogs birthday, or favourite hockey team.

All he needs to do if hes smart is have you click on a link... you know the one that ****s your shit up type.
