Darla cranks my engine....another M50 build

Haters please find somewhere else to go. If you have constructive criticism, Ill listen to it. Ive done lots of research before Ive started this, but if you have some hints and tips please share!

Starting off with a 1990 325i 2dr


Unbolted a dirty ole rear subframe


Taken down to bare metal, sway bar reinforcements and Toe/Camber plates welded in place, Epoxy primed.



Painted with 75D Poly subframe and trailing arm bushings



Engine bay looks dirty old and tired.



Out with the old



To prepare with the new.....ish M50tu25



Engine bay degreased. Deleting Washer fluid, power steering, A/C, ABS. Going to cut the wires out that arn't needed anymore and tuck it through the fender. Also be doing a slight shave on the bay and stich up the front end.



Front subframe and ect taken out. Will be getting the same treatment as the rear. Have a e36 M3 rack to go in along with new bushing control arms, ball joints, tie rods etc. engine mount reinforcements



Im currently pulling all the seam sealer out and the carpet out to clean up some rust thats starting.

Project will be on hold for abit as I aquired another e30 I need to do some work on to move to the back yard as driveway space is getting limited as well garage is full. Need to finish up a turbo mk2 supra then work will start on this again.

you have the plastic thermostat housing on the m50. take that junk off and put a metal one on! its a cheap upgrade!!

Yeh, that will crack pretty quick.

I'm gunna be hatin' because there are now too many M50 swapped E30s around. Makes me feel less good about myself.

Thanks for the kind words. That picture of the engine was right after i got it from the junk yard. Got it out of a E34 that was in a front end collision so the plastic thermostat housing was cracked anyways.

Ordered a nice list from pelican parts. FYI for anybody that orders there housing it comes with a gasket even tho it doesn't say.

Engine will have new rear main seal, water pump, pan gasket, valve cover gasket, ebay headers but I bought the long tube ones. I hear they will work but some persuasion will have to be used.

As for the brake booster I plan on moving it over .5'' and weld half a clevis on the existing clevis so the pedal and rod wont bind. I've heard it will and wont work so ill try it since its free and if it doesn't ill get another booster.

Maxbell you should start hatin somemore because I have TRM c1's aswell but in black and love them!

Thats why you have to swap in an OBDI S52 (thread to follow)

The car will only be used in the summer for track and road. Washer pumps arnt kind to me and just have problems with them. Never had it in my daily e30. Just in the winter sucks lol.

Thanks! Im reading thru your build thread. Amazing work! I see that you used an automatic engine harness.

The harness that I have is auto aswell. What wires and stuff do I need to remove to make it work? Anything would be great help!

There's not really much you have to remove for the auto harness to work. Here's the start of my questions from my build thread.

i used an auto harness. i didnt remove anything! what i did was chop off the diagnostics port by mistake thinking it was for the transmission...but i just have to find time to resolder that back on lol

Thanks guys! I'll end up cutting whatever's not needed with the engine harness. I've got a spare just in case.

Not much progress has been made due to flooding in the basement and got rear-ended and have a sore back and neck.

Sitting on the computer looking around and found something i was interested in.

I present to you a M54b30 crankshaft and head and block!



Block sitting on the ground and its new home right above it.



If anybody is throwing out a non vanos m50 camshaft, id be happy to take it off your hands, if not ill just grab one out of the junk yard.

If you have any knowledge of this m50 stroker s50 clone engine, please let me know. Thats all for now!

hey adam ill take a look for the stuff this weekend. been so busy with a lot.

also, i have the m50 cams exhaust and intake, but from a vanos. i'll take it you need just the intake cam?
