e36ers: Where's your alarm module?

Trying to diagnose an alarm problem on my '96 318 and cannot find alarm module in it's usual location (behind the glove box). Looked under the carpet in passenger and driver's footwells. Looked under the steering wheel. No luck there either.

Traced some wiring to the trunk area and found a motion sensor there but no alarm module.

Any ideas? Perhaps in the engine compartment? But where?

Not likely since the alarm does function. Just not properly.
