Car wont start?

i was at the light waiting and the rpm's started going crazy
it kept revving by it self and then it stopped and then the car shut off
i tried starting it but wouldn't start it cranked over but nothing.
i thought it was the mass air flow sensor so i unplugged it and it started
but when i plug it back in it starts idling rough like it wants to shut off so i kept it off. im assuming that i need a new mass air flow sensor or does it need to be cleaned.

Try cleaning the wire with contact cleaner or alcohol 1st before replacing, if you haven't already

also check that there's no cracks in the wiring leading to the sensor!
