hey so my 2000 bmw E46 4 door engine light came on today, what could it be ? where should i look first ? ive heard it could be the gas cap but i checked it and it was fine. what could i buy to check the codes on the engine ??
Computer is throwing a code for something, so go get the code read. Then you will know exactly what the problem is.
Just fully read your post lol. Umm you can buy a OBD2 reader I think it's called, but it just as easy to have someone read the code for you like I said lol

Bought the OBD reader and the following code appeared- P0340 camsharft position sensor A circuit ( bank 1 or single sensor ) later that day driving the car back home it started to have start up troubles. then once driving it actually died while driving thus locking up the steering wheel. luckly i managed to pull over and start the car.
