Driving advice

Hi: I need some advice. I drive about 50,000 km a year, live in the country, and almost daily, some idiot comes from a driveway or sideroad, without stopping or looking, directly into my path. I usually pass the MF, sometimes have to stomp on the brakes. This happened about 7 times this past weekend, driving from Markdale to Orillia twice and to Oakville once. I usually drive around 95 in an 80 zone. I've been driving for about 50 years, have taken numerous driving courses, concentrate fully on the job of driving. Should I slow down? I feel 80 kph is boring and slow. I'm afraid of having a big one. This is worse on weekends, when the tourists arrive. Any ideas?

thanks,

Jack

I agree that 80 is boring and slow........

But when I come to an intersection or see another car from a distance wanting to turn left or right in front of me. I always assume they are the "public" and can't gauge how fast I am going so I slow down to the speed limit to avoid any problems. Haven't run into an asshole yet....and that goes for city driving as well.

BUT if I'm speeding, they can't tell that from far away so doo de dooo, out in front they go.
Try slowing down.

Happens way to often in brampton. Some idiot decides your far away and can leave the parking lot onto the road and then decides not to speed up.

Hi again: I often use high beams, especially at country intersections.

Lamo, yup. I almost always try to change into the adjacent lane when seeing one of these morons about to pull out into the road.

everyone does this now. Happens all over the city too.
People dont stop at stop signs, red lights or coming out of any kind of driveway(gas station store etc) they just pull out and usually cut someone off who is coming.

its reaaaally bad these days.

same with people running with high beams and/or without lights at all at night

This is especially prevalent among drivers of Japanese cars with bright electroluminescent gauges. Seems like everyone with their lights off at night (or in storms) is driving a Honda.

Yeah I had this happen a few times lately. Sometimes if I'm in the right mood (and I have an open opposing lane) I keep the gas down and pass them I pass people on solid lines if I deem them dangerous (swerving, going off the road, going too slow... wearing pink hats... etc.)

Or if you're really pissed off pass them nicely and once you're in front slow down to 10 below the limit.

yes, you should slow down. driving on public highways isn't supposed to be exciting.

ya people dont realize that the gauge cluster is brighter during the day than night. (it actually dims when you put your lights on)

and the high beam switch for most of them is now a forward movement(rather than a bigger pull back from before) so people accidentally turn them on. They are oblivious to what the blue light on the dash means.

Or to anyone trying to get them to turn it off.

Ive also high beamed many people with no lights on. They always get scared and slow down or try to get away like im trying to do something to them lol.

One lady actually clued in this weekend. Gave me a wave and a thank you. It was a refreshing change.

Unfortunately this will never stop happening. People are retarded and clueless behind the wheel of a car. It's good that you concentrate fully while driving cause about 99% of the people on the road don't. Or are always in to big of a hurry. I drive 80k lbs ready mix trucks all day everyday in the GTA. It's big, and it's very very slow. But it's a hard truck to stop and people ALWAYS cut me off. Atleast 20+ times a day and have 2-5 close calls a day from crazy people on the roads. Not to mention all the times I see people running red lights etc. just to save 2-5 minutes off their commute. So if you haven't had a big wreck or any wrecks in 50 years. Keep doing what your doing. Accident happen but if you concentrate 100% behind the wheel the will be less likely.
