That's one of the more minor ones I've seen, not much damage at all there, the only pain is he dropped the exhaust tab, but even then he's one of the lucky one's whose tab managed to fall right through. Looks like he only replaced 3 of his 6 bolts in those pics, why not replace them all since you're there already

Search m3forum if you want to see some ridiculous-give-you-nightmares-make-you-paranoid damage. Holes in blocks, dropped valves, destroyed pistons and cylinder walls. Scary stuff. I'm thinking I'm gonna have a peak sooner than later now lol

That makes me cringe. That would be one hell of a repair bill if you didn't have the tools ect like myself. Is it a really common thing for VANOS to be like that? Or is it from really being aggressive on the car?

It's not common. It's just that people post the problem on the forum in technical sections, so when you research the issue it looks like every s54 has a problem. I have seen numerous e46 m3's in the past years that have been abused and have high milage with no vanos issues. Just make sure to check valve clearances regularly and keep an eye on things. Don't let the local BMW dealership tell you a valve adjustment isn't necessary because the motor sounds fine lol

I still don't understand why they denied it twice. So stupid

Gives me an excuse to get my hands dirty though

maybe your car still under warranty and they don't wanna find any problem so they don't have to fix it for free. sorry to bring up the Vanos topic to make you guys paranoid but is good to check once awhile. BTW saw an orange 1M on Booth st off Somerset today at 2:45pm WOW. I'm surprise we have 1 in ottawa cause they only send 200 units to canada.

Ya, I've seen the white 1M. Gorgeous car.

And damn you guys for talking about the vanos bolts. Now I feel compelled to check mine.

I saw an orange one in Gatineau also. Could be the same. It had a Québec plate.

Seen a black one drive down fisher yesterday as I was pulling into my complex. I actually had to double check thinking someone just put //M badges on it but the flares were way out and had some massive rear tires.

I see a black 1M everyday on my walk to work, parked at a dentist's office. Centretown. Probably the same one. Saw an orange one with Quebec plates once last year. Love those cars.
Also saw a brand new M5 earlier this week on Elgin St. Dark grey. Very nice.
