Festivities for St. Patrick's Day took a violent turn in London, Ont. where rowdy partiers ignited fires, overturned vehicles and pelted police with glass bottles.
The chaos broke out around midnight on Fleming Drive in the city's east end, an area heavily populated by students and blocks away from Fanshawe College.
Crowds of revellers ignited a fire and stoked it with random objects as police attempted to break up the mob.
Video footage shows partygoers dancing near the blaze, throwing glass bottles and other items at police officers. At one point, a CTV News van was swarmed by rioters and set on fire.
About 50 police and 10 firefighters were driven back by throngs of revellers, District Fire Chief Jim Holmes told The Canadian Press.
Authorities decided to delay moving in, to avoid making the situation worse.
One dead after Project X copycat party gets out of control in Houston

A party meant to emulate the outrageous celebration seen in the hit teen flick Project X has left one young person dead in Texas.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the young victim died Wednesday morning after attending the blow-out in Houston. The party was one of many being thrown these days, inspired by the Nima Nourizadeh comedy.
Word of the party spread via social media and soon 300-600 guests were crowding a vacant mansion on the outskirts of the city. Police arrived to shut the party down just after midnight, forcing the teens in attendance into the streets.
According to eye-witnesses, that's when the trouble occurred.
"Kids took to the streets, but the parking lot was overpacked, so you couldn't get out," says 22-year-old college student Daniel Menjivara. "It was just people in the actual street. They got into arguments and started shooting each other."
Partygoer Willie Armstrong told local news station KTRK he witnessed the actual shooting.
"[The gunman] was just walking, and he pulled out a gun and started shooting, like for no reason," says Armstrong. "He shot that boy in the back of the head, and he fell on the ground by the car. He was just laying there."

I was in Chicago for the weekend's festivities and it was absolutely insane. I've never seen so many people wearing green and trashed by noon. The downtown core was utterly packed, but I went to a bar about 15 mins out of the city and this was on another level! Young crowds completely hammered, bottles broken everywhere, the streets were trashed. It felt like a riot in the brewing but thankfully nothing happened. I guess the intense police presence had something to do with it, lol.

The downtown core was utterly packed, but I went to a bar about 15 mins out of the city and this was on another level! Young crowds completely hammered, bottles broken everywhere, the streets were trashed. It felt like a riot in the brewing but thankfully nothing happened. I guess the intense police presence had something to do with it, lol.
Awesome! How do you like Chicago? Did you apply online? I am going to two conferences next week in Atlantic City, hopefully leading to a job, but you never know.
