Death of Neil Hope revealed five years later

Fans of Degrassi Junior High are mourning the death of cast member Neil Hope, who played Derek (Wheels) Wheeler on the long-running teen drama.

Various media outlets reported Hope’s passing, which was announced just days ago, but actually occurred in 2007.

“The family regrets to announce that Neil passed away in Hamilton, Ont., on Nov. 25, 2007 of natural causes,” Hope’s fiancée, Christina Boulard, said in a statement.

“There was some confusion regarding his passing that they do not wish to go public with, which is why they are only announcing his death now to the public and the media.”

Added Degrassi executive producers Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn in a statement, “Neil made an important contribution to our lives, to the lives of our television team, who are like a family to us, and indeed to the live of many Canadians and others around the world who were influenced by Neil and the roles he played starting from the early days of The Kids of Degrassi Street.

“His life was not an easy one, but the time he spent with us was a shining example of determination, hard work and hopeful optimism and he is sorely missed.”

Hope played Griff on The Kids of Degrassi Street before assuming the role of Wheels — an alcoholic — on Degrassi Junior High, one he played for 58 episodes. Hope reprised Wheels in three instalments of Degrassi: The Next Generation from 2001 to 2003.

The National Post says Hope was the child of alcoholic parents and was candid about the effect that had on his life, himself battling the disease following the death of his father.

A Facebook memorial page has been set up for fans to remember him.

natural causes at 30-35?

This is how broken our corporate/state controlled 'media' is

think of every celebrity gossip bit you've ever heard & wonder how they kept this from being reported for 5 years..and its just celebrity stuff..
so imagine all the rest we haven't heard & will never hear.

Eff that. Rip Wheels. Might Only be for the older generation (I'm 32) but I grew up watching Degrassi.

What a way to go tho... Alone in some rooming home after a
Hit tv show . Sad.

Dude, if you went to places that had the whole article and just not chunks of it you would have read that it was not known for 5 years because the family asked the producers of Degrassi not to make it known to the public that he died. They wanted their peace from the media. The "better" article is on cbc.ca

I wonder if Drake knew about it since he was part of the Degrassi "family".

I almost feel bad for you, almost...and then you post something like this and I realize how absolutely pathetic you are that you need to twist this to meet your bullshit conspiracy hypothesis of our entire existence being controlled. You're a joke.
