Dipstick

Has anyone ever had this happen to them

So I get home and then I park my car after I filled up with gas and went to check the oil but for some reason it was hard to pull the dipstick out so I pulled it out and I look at the dipstick and i'm like wtf the plastic piece broke off so now I'm pissed because my guess is that piece of plastic is either jammed in the dipstick tube or even worse its now in the oil pan just my luck.

So now this is not going to be cheep or fun to fix

what? You broke the plastic end cap to the distick. Use a pair of pliers/adjustable wrench to pull the dipstick (sans handle) out of the dipstick tube, and replace.

I guess the piece at the bottom broke?. Replace the dipstick ... I would not worry about the plastic bit in the pan ... people have had a lot worse in there for years without knowing it.

^^which plastic peice at the bottom? AFAIK there's only plastic at the top.

There is a plastic piece at the bottom ... it's what the oil sits on for the level gauge. Maybe there are different types of dipsticks, but I've never seen one with just metal (like other cars have) ... BMWs have all had a plastic thing on them.

remove the dipstick pipe, get a coat hanger and feed it through to push the plastic piece out if it is in fact stuff in the tube. then stick the tube back in with new dipstick..
just don't be a dipstick about it. :-)
