Key FOB madness...

Ok here is the puzzle of the year...

I have 2 key fobs for my e46.

Key 1 - works great. starts car. memory seats and mirrors OK.
Key 2 - Won't start car. memory seats and mirrors OK.

So you say... just program Key 2.
Ok so I try it, and it won't program at all!?!??!

BUT... if you put KEY 1 in the car, and turn it to position 2, or start the car and shut it down... THEN use KEY 2... the car STARTS!?!?!?

Any ideas?

The winning post get an EXTRA small Tim Horton's coffee!

I'de tell you but your offer is too small. Increase it to a medium, and maybe we can talk lol ,jk.

Honestly, it sounds as though key 2 might be faulty or not programmed properly. If key 1 works perfect, and starts your car without any issues, then we know that a: your car is working fine, and b: your key 1 is working fine. So the only thing left is a faulty key 2.

How close is key 1 to key 2 when you start the car!? If clost enaugh the EWS might be detecting it instead of key 2, so it will start no problem.
In any case, your problem is with key 2, not detected/aligned to the EWS (has nothing to do with other progaraming, you can make any key work your locks/controls etc.)

I've put Key 2 in my pocket or in the passenger seat, or in the cup holder...
I figured it was probably an EWS problem, but I also thought it was strange if I use key 1 and then use key 2 it would work???

So whats the best way to get the EWS fixed, and avoid a BMW dealership putting Vaseline in my ass and POUNDING ME? :p
