everyone harps at the 1080p. Time to get over that - from 13-15 feet away, you can't tell the difference...

All the movies i DL at 720 anyways - I'm not wasting the bandwidth on a 10GB+ 1080p file.

and with vudu/netflix/huluplus all the content you could want minus live sporting events. and of course flexibility to stream existing content you 'own' on other drives.

so i vote for return it.
Vudu, hulu, netflix are all pay to view. ATV with icefilms is free. I'll watch tonights UFC match tomorrow morning when I get up

Care to share? I did use a website for live streaming PPV events but it was taken down thanks to the good ol' USA!

On my 58" screen you can certainly tell the difference between 720p and 1080p mkv's...

I always download 1080p content when it's movies and 720p for TV shows...

I've got a 54" Panasonic Plasma - It's barely noticeable. Not worth twice + the size in download.

i guess i'm that oddball that feels compelled to actually pay for the content. for the few bucks it is for a movie rental...not a big deal.

yes we can debate whether it's overcharging for the content and what is the real value of the content...but either way someone created it and put in the investment. this isn't charity and it is theft end of day.

but this is another topic...

wait till 2k and 4k hits in the near future...

i disagree as i did comparison of same content on 720p DL file/streamed content from vudu via HDX/bluray...

the delta between VUDU HDX and Bluray was there...maybe 10%. but the delta between 720p and HDX was probably slightly bigger and noticeable. will i go with bluray? probably not as HDX was good enough to avoid the hassle of yet another device and going to a store to pickup and return a rental.

i suppose at 58inch you can't tell the diff...but at 106...it starts to be a bit more apparent.

Deep, next time you're pulling something you know you like (or keep) try the 1080p. If you look for it, i bet you'll see the difference (particularly if you have a later gen plasma).

I usually get the 720 if i'm in a rush cause my projector only does 720p/60. I'm going to have to upgrade to 1080p eventually, probably going to wait until this projector craps out.

Oh I have 1080p files, I have 1 movie where I have both versions (720 and 1080) and is there a difference? sure. Is it noticeable? maybe if you look for it. Is is worth twice the bandwidth and time to download? nope.

It's not like watching SDTV then switching to the same channel on HD. Sure, obviously there's a difference, otherwise there wouldn't be a designation for it. But it's just not the biggest sticking point as people constantly harp about.

^^I hear what you're saying. It depends if you archive the stuff you download too (Its unlikely that significantly better quality video than 1080p will be out in 5 years, it will likely be close to the standard for a decade, so some people build collections).

Having said that:

720(p)X1280=921K pixels
1080X1920=2M pixels

So you get pretty much 2X the level of detail between 720p and 1080p.

The real irony is that the human eye is much more sensitive to horizontal resolution than vertical. So measuring HD sources based on their vertical resolution doesn't make too much sense to me. I guess 1080P sounds better than 1920P.

I build collections - and it's just not worth it to me. not unless it's some movie that I absolutely love and is epic...

quite odd how you feel compelled to give money away to people who have net worths 100 times yours. probably as well make more money in 1 year then your entire family will earn in a lifetime.

I think the term theft needs to be redefined, there is a large difference from stealing from your nieghbour his weekly salary. versus taking content that was once played on tv at a certain time, downloading that episode, and having it on your computer for your convenience. instead of going to your local corporate department store and paying 50 dollars for the 8 show DVD set because you missed the one episode.

It's also quite shocking that people pay for stuff they like!

Half the shit out there isn't worth paying for and thus its pirated, but the good stuff, people buy that shit.
