Anyone Jailbroken AppleTV?
Bought one on a whim... Jailbroke it, got xbmc, etc installed.
I was under the impression that itunes content would be accessible free once it was jailbroken (like the iphone), was that incorrect?

Nope, people jailbreak the ATV2 for streaming content from other sources, like Icefilms(free), netflicks($), etc

Well that seems a waste then...
I'll have to install icefilms and see if it's worth keeping... since I have a PS3 and an Xtreamer already, seems pointless...

If you're looking to sell it, I might be interested.

well, I wouldn't sell it for a loss... I can return it to the store and get all my money back...
Are you asking because you don't know how to jailbreak it?

when you jailbreak and install xmbc you no longer are running iOS on it... so yes you loose the iTunes ability (or anything Apple really).

^^^ no, that's not correct - I can still access iTunes stuff and pay for it if I want. The homesharing, airplay, all apple stuff still works.
Perhaps this was the case with previous verisons, but not now...

Oh no, I'm sure I could figure it out. I just haven't had to yet as I don't own any apple products. My dad does, so I'm looking at getting him an Ipad & apple TV for his birthday. I would have probably jailbroken it for him anyways so if you were stuck with it as it was jailbroken (i don't know if you can undo a jail break?) It could have been mutually beneficial. (save me learning a product I have no interest in ever using)
If you can still return it, feel free.

yea, I can just load the original software back and return it...
FireCore and NitoTV have made some easy jailbreak tools. It's literally a few clicks to break it. A little more work for icefilms, but not that hard.

There is no way to get free itunes content*, you misunderstood.
*Apps can be obtained free, but thats from other sources and not applicable to Apple TV.
You can however download your own media content and stream it to your apple tv, but you probably can already do that with your PS3 or other device. The ATV2 is pretty redundant unless you were getting it for streaming content from sources available to the ATV, or the user friendly interface of XBMC.

Curious to know, does this AppleTV also provide basic cable and other such things? as well as the apps ect. Because I'm wondering if it's basically a replacement for cable so you can livestream shows off the net kinda like netflicks. Just worried about a big buffing sign in the middle of the tv when watching a hockey game or something because it would be nice to eliminate cable all together. Only saves me 22$ thought, although I do get more then basic cable for that price since the tech guy couldn't install it properly and gave us up to 90 channels lol.

interesting, I thought by loading mxbc on it you were replacing iOS completely.
I'll be honest though apple TV never interested me at all.. hardware is too weak (no 1080p).

There is no such thing as streaming live tv over the internet (well worthwhile channels anyway)... you would have to wait for the shows to become available and then you can either stream or download them.
If you want to get free TV setup an HDTV antenna

thread hijack - WD TV Live Stream i think is a better device and cheaper. no need to hack around the apple thing. it just works. and outputs at 1080p. i think it's about the same price if not cheaper unless you got some apple deal.
and with vudu/netflix/huluplus all the content you could want minus live sporting events. and of course flexibility to stream existing content you 'own' on other drives.
so i vote for return it.
