2012 Winter Championship Go-Kart Series
Back again is our annual winter go-kart series. This is a championship series, but you are welcome to attend as often or few times as you wish. We are holding it at Grandprix Kartways at Downsview Park. The series is set up as such: Each event will include 3 heats of 15 laps each. The first heat is qualifying. The second heat starts as you qualified. The third heat starts in an inverse order of qualifying. So if you start on pole the first race you will start last the second race! This format has proved most successful in years past to keep the field tight! This has produced some of the finest indoor competition in years past. This year should prove likewise. The cost is $50 taxes included. You must be a member of Trillium to participate. Membership costs are $62.15 H.S.T. included for one year from the time of membership! You can register on-line to facilitate the process at www.trillium-bmwclub.ca. Food and beverage is available at the facility, and given that the karts are electric, it is reasonably quiet and odor free! Many tv's abound as well to watch other sporting events between heats and so on! The first race starts at 7pm sharp, so please arrive at 6:30 in order to allow plenty of time to register and attend the drivers meeting prior to the event starting.
Please Note: The karts will all be set to speed one. This is only done for their own racing league and us. Whenever you attend with the general public the karts are set to speed 2. This advantage is worth about 1.5 seconds a lap. The karts feel way more sprightly in this setting and is a lot more fun as power oversteer is definitely possible.
Where: Grandprix Kartways Downsview Park
75 Carl Hall Road
Bay 3, Unit #9
Parc Downsview Park
Toronto, ON
Canada M3K 2B9
416.638.5278

Annual Trillium Membership Fee: $62.15 Tax incl.
When: Sunday January 15 at 7pm
Sunday January 29 at 7pm
Sunday February 12 at 7pm
Sunday March 4 at 7pm
Sunday March 18 at 7pm
The points structure will work this way:
1st place = 10 points
2nd = 9 points
3rd = 8 points
4th = 7 points
5th = 6 points
6th = 5 points
7th = 4 points
8th = 3 points
9th = 2 points
10th = 1 point
There will be an additional 10 points issued to anyone racing in group one for every finish, and an additional 5 points issued to anyone racing in group two. There will be no additional points issued to an other groups. These are the bonuses issued for qualifying and running in the front groups. For Championship purposes, the best 4 out of 5 events will be included in the points total.

The electric karts are as or faster then the gas ones, plus the ventilation at the place last year was so horrible you went home with a bad headache and smelling like you poured diesel all over yourself.
Plus because you dont have fumes, it's actually better for traction. Last your it was a ice rink with cold concert and slicks at the gas place
The amenities are much better at downsveiw as well, you can get decent hot food and I think $11 pitchers.....

For us and their own series only. But yes you MUST brake after the back sweeper and the front hairpins or you'll understeer straight into the wall on speed setting 1!

Is a BMWCC member allowed to bring a guest like last year?
Also roughly how late does this usually go? 9pm -10pm?

Yes guests are allowed. That's a reasonable assumption for ending time, but it depends on the number of people who attend. The last time we ran at GPK we averaged 23 participants and were out of there typically by 9:30. Hopefully that helps you gauge it?

Cool, added it to my blog:

Is there any official rules written anywhere? Didn't see anything on the trillium forum.

Regular gas karts don't sound great anyhow. They just sound like lawnmowers at constant full throttle. Now shifter karts, those are awesome (especially at Daytona http://axisofoversteer.blogspot.com/...n-daytona.html)
John, you should also send an email to Trillium members. I didn't see this post until Scott told me. I can't wait. Hopefully I can make most of the events.
