Ahh, of course.

What do you think the weight delta will be with all these changes?

I'm guessing the roof skin with the sunroof frame weighed around 20-25lbs.

I'm hoping the CF skin weighs around 5 lbs

Overall, I'm aiming for 2400-2450 lbs all said and done (including the addition of the front roll cage). Last year, the car was at 2500lbs

This will really give Ralph some competition! I look forward to this immensely.

And yes, I used "weight delta". It was shorter.

We finally picked up some welding gas friday, and I had my first shot at it today. I cut some custom plates, bent them to shape, and reinforced my driver side shock tower (picture of passenger side is for comparison):

So as you can see in his thread, Chis seems to be much better at this than I am... It's weird because when I would do test pieces, my welds would be great. Oh well, I know they're strong.

Got the other side done, reinstalled the strut tower brace, and got the front base plates done too. Had to reinforce the driver floor since it was all rotten.

A contributing factor would be the fact that they're round and his are square. A round shape is more difficult to weld since you have to change the position and angle and the same time, while with a square shape you only change position.

Just looks like you need a little more heat, that's all. I'm sure its plenty strong though!

Ahh, you're right lol. You have exactly what I want in there, except I want X to be in the rear not just diagonal.

Well it's been a while, and truthfully not much has happened on the car in the past few weeks. Chris is in the process of building his cage for his car, and I'll be helping him out with that, as well as helping jamie fab up some composite parts.

In the meantime, I spent more money while I was at Sebring last weekend - I got a helmet hook & 14" rearview mirror, and I also picked up a race suit

Well its been a busy few months but i finally got a chance to do some work today. I got both side hoops bent, and ready to be tacked in. The driver-side has a bit better fit, but I'm very happy with both.

Thanks Grant!

Actually (i thought) my welding today was much better than previous... until i ran out of gas. I welded the hoops from yesterday, and finished the windshield & dash bars for the front roll hoop, the roof cross-bar, and then some bracing.
