E39 540i wheel fitment?
Hey guys,
Recently i ended up purchasing a nice 2001 540i m package 6speed.
I plan on driving it in the winter and am looking for a set of winter tires/rims.
I am just wondering whether all E39's from 1997 up had the same odd hub size of 74.1 or is it only the 540i?
Will a set of 16inch wheel from a 2001 528i, or 530i fit on the 540i?
Thanks
Derek

All E39 and E53 (1st gen X5) have 74.1mm center bores, the 16"s will fit as long its alloy wheels, and most steelies will fit with some strange ones that may rub the calipers (I've only heard it a few times).
Don't just limit yourself to 16" winter set up, sometimes 17" winter set ups come up fairly cheaply as well.

Thanks a lot. And i am not just looking at 16's but it seems that there are much more of them. Hard to find 17's with the 74.1 hub

If you come across some 17"s for really cheap, it only costs about $100-150 to bore them to 74.1mm for a set of 4.

First gen X5 (E53) is 72.6mm. Second gen (E70) is 74.1mm. It's counter-intuitive to the 5ers they are respectively based on.

No, it's higher. X5 offsets are more 3-series than 5/7.
