Hey guys, sorry for being MIA yesterday, the E30 commanded my attention until it was out of my hand (pretty much pulled an all-nighter to finish detailing it)... Now it is in the hands of the very happy new owner

Yes, '73 ETCC cars had entirely different bodywork and wheel sizes altogether. That pic is early '73, as around mid '73, the wing package was homologated and the cars ran with the fancy 'Batmobile' wing set from then on.

Like Eddie mentioned about the spoiler stripe, no there wasn't a 'template' so to speak. But like I said, they were always trying different stuff on each cars at different races. Going back to the picture Scott posted with his favorite red and white clad friend , look at the wheel offset between the two cars. Some stuff came at the request of the driver (say like a locked rearend VS a LSD)... Most of the bigger stuff was tested beforehand (like widening the fenders in '75, etc.)

EDIT Oh, and I forgot to mention

Since this is afterall the 2002 thread... I just wanted to update you guys with whats been happening. In short, nothing has happened lately, so I obviously won't be taking it to Mosport tomorrow (for those that I may have mentioned it too, please disregard) I will still be there tomorrow, but without a ride If I have an ounce of luck, I still maybe able to get it driveable before the snow flys, but thats pretty much the end of the season... and will have to wait until next Spring for any driving experiences with the '02.

Could even be a privateer entry?

Pretty bare bones, that car is. Narrow flares, no wind splits on top of the quarter panels, no batmobile wing, no passenger mirror, no rear windshield spoiler, crome drivers side mirror instead of smaller black ones, no side dump exhaust, and no front tow hook. Probably running on cheap one piece high offset Chinese rims with two bolt patterns, spacers, hub rings, and no centercaps.

Glad to hear you got the e30's tank back in and everything all together. It's like the car didn't want to leave or something. All that stuff you had off the car on the weekend looked sooooo rusty! Lucky you were able to sell that thing at all! I kid, I kid.

Oh yea, this is the '02 thread, haha! There's still time before the snow flies. I'm sure you'll get some front brakes on there and take it for a rip out on the road. Is there an exhaust on it?

^Haha high offset chinese rims with dual bolt. The Factory wishes they used stuff lke that on their cars But yeah, none of the privateers ran Motorsport stripes like that. That was the Factory's latest and greatest for colour schemes back in the day. It even looks like Stuck's helmet with the stars all around it.

Yeah I'm not gonna lie, its like the E30 didn't want to leave a few days before today. I ended up having to pull an all-nighter to detail the car because I didn't have enough time this week dealing with all the other stuff... It paid off, the new owner is very happy with the car. I believe he may still be on the road with it as we speak... hes got a long drive to get home.

No exhaust, but I will be chopping the exhaust off my E30 parts car and using that as temporary. 2.5" all the way back. I still wish a 3" would fit

Back to our regularly scheduled programming!

Found some blue soft line to finish off the brake fluid reservoir. Going to put this on soon.

Put some coolant in over the weekend. Just an extra precaution in case it gets booted outside when its cold. I let it run a bit to warm up and mix around. No more leaks!

Also found a mirror and popped that back in.

And Dad turned these out this morning for the car. These are the upper spring perches for the rear springs. We still need to make a mount for the bottom to press into the adjustment sleeve and the rear end is complete! Beside them on the bench is what will be the rear brake caliper holders...

Yeah it's been a while. Every time I have an opportunity to go out with a friend something comes up. Also my e36 is a ways from being track ready, but next season should be great as I got myself a nice contract up in the oil sands for a 16 week stint so should be able to do all the finishing touches on the e36.

Dem rimmmsss... drooollllll

I don't know how much I can do for updates, except for maybe digging into the paint a bit... with no track events coming up for at least another 5-6 months, there isn't much desire to do anything with it. I'll hopefully get the brakes sorted in the meantime, and thats about it.

Wishlist:

3" oval steel exhaust piping
bigger fuel cell (at least 60L)
pair of Nitto NT01 225/45/15
Megasquirt system
Wideband 02 sensor
a nice paint job lol

Started to take a crack at the paint over the last couple days. I started with the C pillars and to my dismay, sanded through the paint pretty quick. It's not through completely, but you can see dark clouds in the paint. Turns out a lot of the car is like this, as I started to do the roof yesterday... and a few spots where I could see the same thing happening. Unfortunately I'll have to back off the sanding a bit, deal with some of the texture, and polish it hopefully without the clouds appearing. I ended up doing half the roof yesterday and a bit this afternoon, I should be able to finish it off tomorrow evening.

Not perfect (which drives me crazy) but its good enough for a track car. Considering what it is, and how much it cost, I'll just have to adjust my expectations and live with it.

What I started with:

How it ended up looking:
