Winter Tyres: Hankook iPike W409 or Semperits for E90!!! :S

Hi guys,

Would you recommend putting either of these (iPike W409 or Semperits) on an E90 for the winter - They are T rated.. and I've heard reviews from both sides of the fence saying that T rated tyres provide more grip sacrificing performance which is better for me because I don't intend to do 200 km/h to work and back everyday.. but others say that putting a T rated tire on a 220hp BMW is a no-no..

Any advice on this?? I'm trying to stick to the $600 dollar mark for the winter in sizes 225/45/17

I've used the 409's on E30's and E36's and LOVED them. The best deep snow tire I've ever had...but pretty soft sidewalls and tall lugs make them vague (at best) on dry roads. I found the Semperits to be ok in snow and dry roads - I had them on a Protege for a couple years.

if $600 is your budget, you're not going to be able to get the W409's in 225/45/17, they are closer to $800 range (unless you're talking used). Even Semprits are around $650 after taxes, and install and stuff.

I've already worked out a deal for $600 for the w409s all-in

and $500 all in for the semprits..

To keep it in perspective I got brand new/installed/roadforce balanced Ventus V12s in

225/40/18 and 255/35/18 for $850 all in (including.. balancing taxes etc.)... Hookups is key!

do you drive mostly on plowed streets? then you're better off with semperits.

if you deal with many early morning commute on unplowed streets, iPikes would help on snow/ice traction... downside is squirmy behaviour on dry high speed driving

considering the HS439's as well.. I believe they are a good V rated cheaper option.

I Love my IPikes, it all depends how and where you drive. I never have tried the Semperits.

So pulled the trigger... decided instead to go with a set of the stiff sidewalled, V-Rated.. Falken HS 439s..

They certainly look the part.. although not as aggressive as the iPikes..
