Thinking of coming back to German - Porsche or BMW?

Gents,

Many of you know of my horrible experience with a first model year of the E46's. I won't be making that same mistake.

I'm looking for a summer toy - I've narrowed it down to either a 2008ish Z4 or a 2007 Porsche Boxster (S or non-S, doesn't bother me).

The question is - theres alot of fear mongering about the IMS on the Porsche causing catastrophic failures of the engine. I don't think it's as bad as the Internet reads, but who knows.

I wanted to find out from Z4 owners what the common issues are with them and if there was anything to watch for.

I will be going manual tranny this time around.

Any insight is appreciated. I know there are Porsche aficionados here as well - any insight into the Porsche would be appreciated as well.
